“Our News”. On July 17, employees of the “Washington Harbor” trading complex in Georgetown reported that the K-5 security robot, created by startup Knightscope “to predict and prevent crimes”, was found in a fountain near the building.

The device had been purchased “recently” to patrol the shopping center’s parking lots in Washington. According to witnesses, the robot autonomously moved into the fountain and “drowned” itself, after which it ceased to function.

Liked tweet: We were promised flying cars, instead we got suicidal robots.

Every day, Elizaveta Alieva and I play 2-3 chess games. But yesterday we decided to “diversify our leisure” and played “Maharaja”. We named this game “The Hunger Games” among ourselves. You’ll soon find out why.

The starting position is quite amusing. The black pieces are arranged in a classic manner, but there are hardly any white pieces. The whites have only one piece β€” the maharaja, which combines the capabilities of both a queen and a knight. At the start of the game, the maharaja is placed on any (player’s choice who plays white) square of the first rank, and black makes the first move in the game, with players taking turns thereafter.

Pawn promotions are forbidden. Whites win by checkmating the black king (thanks to its power, the maharaja can checkmate on its own, without needing other pieces). Blacks win by capturing the maharaja.

The game has a winning strategy for black, but it’s not so easy to figure out.

Someone should invent a browser plugin that identifies unavailable YouTube videos and redirects to an available one (if there is one, then on YouTube itself). The thing is, when a video is unavailable, a user can’t even search by keywords, because they are missing (see screenshot). But they were there when it was still accessible. More often than not, the video can be found on the same YouTube site using the same keywords.
