I was surprised to find in a cafe Stereo 8 cartridge tapes and a player for them. This format died out about forty years ago, giving way to cassette tapes, but here it was, in perfectly working use. There was no rewind feature on such devices, so I had to wait for it to play through a sequence of up to four songs (that’s how many typically fit on one stereo track), lasting about 20 minutes.
