I am reading Sapiens, and it has references to the Bible (specifically the Old Testament, Deuteronomy, Deutoronomy). Decided to Google it—and it’s complete madness. Not only in Deuteronomy but in general.

I am a person with materialistic views, so I am far from the subject. However, it’s hard not to notice that even the most radical Christian communities do not follow the letter of the books but filter it through their brains and sound logic, mainly taking the good and pure from these books.

In short, check out what I quickly found in just two books of the Old Testament, Exodus and Deuteronomy—they recommend killing (specifically killing):

1) children who speak ill of their parents (“Anyone who curses their father or mother must be put to death – Exodus 21:17).

2) an ox and its owner if the ox gores a person due to the owner’s negligence (“If an ox was previously accustomed to gore and its owner has been warned but did not keep it confined and it kills a man or a woman, the ox is to be stoned and its owner also is to be put to death” – Exodus 21:29).

3) fortune-tellers (“Do not allow a sorceress to live – Exodus 22:18).

4) nonbelievers (“Whoever sacrifices to any god other than the LORD alone is to be destroyed – Exodus 22:20).

5) anyone who works on the Sabbath (“Observe the Sabbath, for it is holy to you. Anyone who desecrates it must be put to death” – Exodus 31:14).

6) those who commit adultery (“If a man commits adultery with another man’s wife—with the wife of his neighbor—both the adulterer and the adulteress are to be put to death” – Leviticus 20:10).

7) homosexuals (“If a man has sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable; they are to be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads.” — Leviticus 20:13).

8) lovers of threesome (“If a man marries both a woman and her mother, it is wicked; both he and they must be burned in the fire, so that no wickedness will be among you. — Leviticus 20:14)

9) wizards (“A man or a woman who is a medium or a wizard is to be put to death; they are to be stoned; their blood will be on their own heads. — Leviticus 20:27). https://ekzeget.ru/bible/levit/glava-20/stih-27/

10) daughters of priests who commit adultery (“If a priest’s daughter defiles herself by becoming a prostitute, she disgraces her father; she must be burned in the fire. — Leviticus 21:9). https://ekzeget.ru/bible/levit/glava-21/stih-09/

11) prophets whose predictions do not come true (“But a prophet who presumes to speak in my name anything I have not commanded them to say, or who speaks in the name of other gods, is to be put to death.” — Deuteronomy 18:20). https://ekzeget.ru/bible/vtorozakonie/glava-18/stih-20/

12) stubborn and rebellious sons (“If someone has a stubborn and rebellious son who does not obey his father and mother and will not listen to them when they discipline him, his father and mother shall take hold of him and bring him to the elders at the gate of his town. They shall say to the elders, ‘This son of ours is stubborn and rebellious; he will not obey us. He is a glutton and a drunkard.’ Then all the men of his town are to stone him to death. You must purge the evil from among you. All Israel will hear of it and be afraid.” Deuteronomy 21:18-21). https://ekzeget.ru/bible/vtorozakonie/glava-21/stih-21/

13) non-virgin brides (See screenshot, Deuteronomy 22:13-21).

And there’s a lot more like this. Surprisingly, there’s no 18+ rating on them 🙂 Again, I have great respect for religious people, and I am sure that the appropriate answer here is “it was a different time, and it was okay for those times.” But just today, I discovered these details for myself.
