Continuing the theme with The Saturday Evening Post from 1945 and 1950, which I studied with Nadezhda at the Library Of Congress.

Note how ketchup is spelled — Catsup. This is not a brand name; rather, it was the most common way to refer to ketchup in the early 20th century in the USA (although ketchup was also used, which later prevailed). There is no connection to cat soup. Moreover, it is spelled that way but still pronounced as ketchup. The original name derived from the Malay name of a fish sauce with fruits, specifically 鮭汁 (膎汁) kê/kuê-tsiap, and literally means “salmon/fish sauce.”
