I continue sharing ads from the Saturday Evening Post. I just do a local search through the magazine just for fun in the evenings, and occasionally flip through the issues. Look, an ad in the 1989 issue—a digital Bible with built-in search. Screen 256×128, 16KB of memory.

Interestingly, the electronic bible has an auto shut off mode.

Mine works quite normally, but the vector index takes up a hell of a lot of space. For 819,000 sentences, which is 14,000 pages, 130 magazines from the years 1935, 1946, 1966, 1989, 1990, it has grown to 5 gigabytes. This is probably because the openai embeddings are large (as I understand, 4K per sentence). At the same time, I have a similar index on Solr, and it takes up 190MB. The search on this database takes about 2 seconds. The index loads once in about 15 seconds.
