In our district, all schools are closed today because of Yom Kippur. The schools are closed not only for public holidays but also for Yom Kippur (Judaism), Diwali (Hinduism), Eid al-Fitr (Islam), Chinese New Year, and Indigenous Peoples’ Day. The latter serves as an alternative to Columbus Day, which is considered controversial for indigenous peoples.
