Could you recommend something wildly engaging for family listening (ages 12-39) during a 10-hour car ride? Audiobooks, fiction or non-fiction.

I only just realized what “check” means in chess, and what “mate” signifies. It’s like a whole love story unfolding.

The coolest thing about the iPhone X is unlocking the phone with just a glance and its absolutely seamless software performance. I never understood why Android would have lock screen notifications if you can’t properly interact with them (since you then need to enter a code, etc.). Here, you click on a notification and it opens up. That is, if it’s the owner doing it. And it won’t open if it’s not the owner.
Surprisingly, I am even pleased with the headphone jack adapter. Because a standard port is too conventional, and standard headphone plugs vary too much. If the plug is long, it acts like a lever and damages the phone. Gradually, no matter how carefully it’s used. All adapters have long plugs, long enough for a dangerous lever. In the iPhone, no lever is created since all plugs are soft.
The size is also very aptly chosen. The thumb reaches the left edge without accidentally touching the screen in the wrong places. Make the screen just a bit larger, and this convenience would be lost.

I publish my developments on the blog. Today it’s the turn for a rather useful script that finds external links to Hybris objects. In Hybris, there is a layer between the database and the application that simplifies data handling. And when you need to find the answer to “where is this (for example) product, or (for example) category, or (for example) image used”, a quick answer might not be found, since “out of the box” there are no such tools. Any of the thousands of objects may have a link, and scanning them all is expensive. Sharing a script that smartly scans and promptly displays external links to an object (as best as it can; beta version, Q&D)

Regarding the quality of mobile Internet here: I found out yesterday at the AT&T office that I’ve had only 3G since August, not 4G. They offered to upgrade to 4G for an additional 30 bucks, I declined. Everything works fine as it is, both video and audio.
By the way, I now have an iPhone X! Happy after Samsung Note 4, everything is fast and looks great

I feel that modern browsers lack the feature to “Discuss/comment on a page” with the ability to edit, comment, and review anything on it, contextually and multimedia-wise. Yes, it would require a smart system that remembers where edits were made, so that changes in the page do not lead to issues with linking the comment to a specific place, etc., but this is not very complex, and it is normal that it might not work on some systems (like SPA). On desktops, screens are becoming larger than what browsers need, and having an additional hideable panel for discussions, remarks would be simply invaluable. Wikipedia could be adapted for this purpose. I mean, the same idea: anyone can change another’s edits, but the latter will receive a notification, and can revert the edit, while the page author is just another participant.

To win an election, you don’t need a majority. It’s enough to have a carefully selected minority that influences groups of people, together forming a majority. The simplest and repeatedly tested method of influence is to ensure dependency on the aforementioned minority. From financial dependency to involvement in illegal activities. If people have something to lose, they are in the game. Even a slight dependency is enough to make the dependents vote in unison with the mentioned minority. And yes, it needs to be a pyramid, as the country is large. Such a scheme can only fail due to poor organization and/or insufficient resources to build an effective network of influence.

For friends about #hybris: Sharing useful Groovy scripts that I frequently use at work. Today I am sharing my script for creating a database query, where you only input the type, and it does everything else by itself: joins related tables, selects a list of attributes, etc. In Hybris, atop the database, there is a special ORM layer where the database table analog is “itemtype”. So, to extract all the useful data (for reconciliation purposes, for example), you need to write a bulky query. To make it easier to write, here I’ve drafted a little script that generates it. You can find usage examples via the link.
