For the second year now, I’ve been relentlessly hassled by cold calls from some English-speaking folks with offers of financial planning and the like. I methodically and politely send them away (about 10 times now), yet they methodically invite me to chat in their office on Mokhovaya, despite it being not important to me. Now I’m thinking, maybe I should visit out of curiosity in my free time? If there really are Americans/Brits there (which is unlikely), it would be a free chance to practice English on financial topics. But I suspect that just two square meters are rented out there and they brainwash in Russian. On the other hand, if I set out to troll some people in my free time, and perhaps even in English – if it’s some sort of elegant scam for money, I could learn about the schemes. Has anyone encountered this?

I wonder, what explains Russia’s resistance (and that of many other countries) to hiring specialists from abroad? Okay, one could argue that they interfere with the employment of “their own.” But why not issue work permits easily and simply for specific regions and positions where there is a significant shortage? For example, to allow a Black person to come to a remote village as an English teacher in no time?

The day when the sun allows you to drive fast in the public transport lanes and park for free in paid parking spots downtown. Some days in Moscow are even good to live in.
