How can the vertebrate population reduce by half over half a century when the number of large domestic animals like cows has increased to one and a half billion heads? From an evolutionary perspective, they, like corn, wheat, and potatoes, are more than well-off.

How do they take such photos? With such a long exposure, shouldn’t everything “blur” completely? And if the photographer (Vyacheslav Prokofiev) allows himself to use collage, then it isn’t really photography anymore, but “Photoshop.” Therefore, I suppose he does not allow it. But how then is it done?

UPDATE: It seems like a long exposure in the dark + lighting with spotlights for short periods on different parts of the hall. The photographer is awesome

Published an article about a new product from SAP, an Angular-based e-commerce template moving towards full support for Progressive Web App. The article explains what PWA is, and what makes the SAP product interesting (by the way, it’s open source).

Besides Spartacus, there is also Vue Storefront, and nothing else even comes close. Spartacus comes with an Apache license, Vue with an MIT license, meaning both are free of charge in either case. Both are ostensibly developed for the platform, but they’re just microservices – you can swap them out for your own, or tailor your own to fit the SAP Commerce or Magento interface.

The article only covers Spartacus. Vue sometime next time.

Watched, cool movie. To me, it totally outdoes La La Land. And there’s Chewbacca in it too

Today, Elizaveta Alieva and I have a disagreement. She says that we need to sort trash and separate paper into a different bin. I say that sorting paper is completely pointless.

She argues that if paper is not recycled, more trees will be cut down, and it will be disastrous for the environment.

I argue that first, the demand for paper does not change much from year to year, or even decreases; and second, trees are a renewable resource. If we invest in forests, not just cut them down, our consumption can be sustained indefinitely without any recycling. Furthermore, the only reason to recycle is to reduce the expenses of paper manufacturers and, to some extent, save on waste processing costs (we are doing their job for them). With plastic, I understand, it does not decompose quickly. But paper is different (though it contains a bit of plastic too). And if it’s really necessary to save trees—then make laws for paper producers. Let them raise the prices of paper and use that money to plant forests.
