A walk through Lake Anne Village. An interesting little place built 60 years ago in the brutalist style, with a nod to the Italian Portofino. Concrete and nature. And at that time, an unusual combination of residential and non-residential spaces. Outside of the major cities in the USA at that time, zoning was strict, and even now it almost universally remains out of inertia. Here the architect decided to experiment. As a result of the experiments, there’s a nine-story building right on the lake shore.
Along the shore here, there are many private homes with windows literally opening onto the water, with boats “parked” at the water. This part, the Waterview cluster, was designed with French fishing villages in mind.
